LINES OF COMMUNICATION POLICING (LoCP)

Road Traffic Accident, Exercise Saif Sarrea II

In times of war, the responsibility to maintain the Main Supply Routes (MSRs), from rear supply and HQ elements to the front line fighting troops, has fallen to both the RAFP and RMP. This duty has several key priorities:

  • Route maintenance, i.e. route signing so that personnel can get to where they are required as directly and as smoothly as possible.

  • Protection, particularly from insurgents, of the MSR as well as vehicles, personnel and equipment using it.

  • Basic policing of the MSR, ie. traffic control, general policing, dealing with Traffic Accidents and breakdowns.

All TPW personnel train to fulfill this role.

Although this has only very recently become an RAFP tasking, it is interesting to note that No 6 RAFP Security Section accompanied 2TAF & 21st Canadian Army Group ashore at Juno Beach, on 6 June 1944 and performed this very role.
